It's Art Time!

Well, this has been a strange week. Between random bouts of awful depression, I finally ended the week with horrible insomnia experience. Namely I was up till about 5:30 for NO PARTICULAR REASON. I apologize now if anything seems out of place.

First up, is my "doodle" for the theme of the week - as I lost the ability to draw for a bit during this time, let alone tackle any sort of real project. yay. BUT! I did this the other night, and it technically HAS apples in it, so here's mine!

In the meanwhile, here's some color marker testing I've done. I've discovered smooth bristol board + copic markers = WIN. Well, at least for me.

For those not in  the know, coloring on the computer frustrates me to no end. I can't figure it out, I've tried dinking around (which is the sum total of the advice given to me - along with "Oh just use SAI!" it's easy - no it's not), and frankly it doesn't act like natural media where I can see and understand the science behind it. So until I get that revelation (or find a class that's not just "oh here's how to tweak your pics and remove blemishes in Photoshop), I'll be sticking with traditional media.

This is also probably the same technique I'll use on commissions once I get the info for that up and ready.

In the meanwhile, I'm going to go find a costume and get ready to go and give a seminar today!

TOO MANY BOXES

Because I hop around a lot on my own projects, I feel sometimes like I can't keep up with the things I SHOULD be. Well. Sometimes.

I've almost finally got the living room and kitchen set so they don't look like somebody just moved in (as in, no moving boxes strewn about).

But now I have to reattack the office as it became the home for STUFF I DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT. Ugh.

Anyway, my real reason for posting is to remind everybody about this week's theme:

APPLES

Since it's way too expensive to go apple picking and get cider this year (it's at least $9 a gallon, or more), let's PRETEND we're going to the apple orchard and pick fictitious apples. YEAH! I should hopefully have a pic by this Friday - I look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Slow on Posts This Week

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of posts this week.

I'm fighting some awful terrible depression things. I'm not dead, I'm just... really tired all the time lately.

I should hopefully at least have the theme picture for next week done.

Be back laters!

Theme of the (2) Week(s) 9/17 - 9/28

Okay! It's that time again! But I'm switching up the rules again. Cause yeah, that's how I roll.

Instead of a picture a week, we're gonna do a picture every OTHER week, so that means that this "weeks" theme is actually due not this Friday but the Friday AFTER that. Got it?

This week's theme is:

APPLES

Mostly because I love apple picking, but because we've had such a drought-like summer in apple land I don't think I'm gonna get to go apple picking like I want. So I want YOU to draw, write, create SOMETHING about apples.

And hey, I might actually get myself to draw for this theme too!

Getting Back into the Comic Making Process...

It's been a rough few weeks for me, now that I'm fully doing art and stuff. I'm still recovering from a terrible bout of something like Artist's Block, but instead of not being able to think of anything to draw, I have a bajillion ideas of stuff to do, and before I sit down to work on it, I've convinced myself that my drawings are worthless and I'm a terrible artist.

So to commemorate actually accomplishing something, here's the most recent comic I made! Next up is me trying to do some Sky's End stuff...

100th post! And a brief interlude.

I bet you're wondering why I didn't post a topic this week. Well, two things occurred to me:

1.) Having to do full nice pictures/objects/whatever once a week per a topic is WAY too much like work. So, I'll do it like every other week. For those of us with IRL things to take care of. :)

2.) An Alley opened up on Monday afternoon. I found out about said Alley opening on SUNDAY NIGHT. So naturally, my schedule went a little kookoo.

Also, as another happy milestone (I think?) this is my 100th Post! Yaaaaaaaaay!

So what else has been going on here at the Labs?

Well, I got my first ever denial from an alley. So I won't be attending Anime Crossroad, unless they randomly decide I get to join from the wait list. :-/ It was a pretty big hit to my poor fragile confidence which has been wavering lately.

Which I won't bother you guys with right now, unless you REALLY want to know.

And let me tell you, trying to sign up for the next Alley that appeared (as written above), that was cataclysmic.

First off, they needed a link to a portfolio page, so I wanted to make a page for my website that held all the things that sell at my booth (as I didn't have that on DevArt easily to find).

So I spent all morning taking new pictures, coding my portfolio page and whatnot, and finally came up with THIS: Artist Alley Stuff

That took me about all day until around 2pm, so I had an hour to rest. Naturally, I was a giant ball of anxiety. Then I waited, and waited, and waited. Then 3 pm hit, and I frantically filled out my application and sent it in. And then I can rest, you'd think, right?

Well, first, the internet goes out at 3:15. I had almost NOT been able to submit my application. AUGH.

THEN. I get a message that the website was down, and found out that GoDaddy had suffered a server attack and they all went down. And I'm thinking: "OH NO WHAT IF THEY ARE CHECKING MY PORTFOLIO?!?!"

*sigh *

Thankfully, GoDaddy was able to fix it quickly, so I think they should be able to get to my portfolio page to see my things.

Long story short, I'm now waiting to hear back from them. So I'll be a little edgy.

HOWEVER! I am working on new comics finally. :)

Well gee. That was kinda rambly. Sorry about that! I'll have a picture for you soon.

9/3/12 Weekly Theme Results!

Well, it's the end of the first week of Art Themes. This week was "Summer Sun".

Which, looking back at the week, was an AWFUL theme. Hahahaha. The reasoning for this is that I'm totally ready for Fall, and I got busy trying to get myself back in the habit.

Now, while I did not draw for the theme (specifically), I DID actually draw. I needed an outlet for some doodling so I gave in and created some ginjinka of weather-y type things (okay they're clouds, but still!).

Apparently people liked them, so I'm working on more.

So here's my pictures:

In the meanwhile, I had an actual entry! Yay! The first one!

This is from Doctor of Phabric:

She made a kanzashi, which are those pretty Japanese flower hair thingies. (Please correct if wrong).

So Doctor of Phabric gets an A this week for following through with the theme.

Theme for Week of 9/3/2012

Look at this! I'm already behind. I totally forgot it is Monday. But in my defense it IS a holiday weekend, so naturally I'd forget what day it was.

Anyway, here's this week's theme:

SUMMER SUN

Yes, yes, it's Labor day here in the states and technically school starts soon, so before I start posting awesome fall-themed ideas, let's do one last hurrah for summer!

This could be:

a vacation
cooking outdoors
playing a game
swimming/running/something athletic
the sea
being too hot outside

Namely anything that reminds you of summer!

I look forward to seeing links to your drawings, writings, what have you by Friday!
